Volunteers

Volunteering at

Children’s Safe Harbor

Volunteers perform a wide variety of functions within CSH. Due to the sensitive and high-risk nature of children’s advocacy center work, CSH conducts a formal screening process (submitted to a criminal history check, child abuse registry check, and sex offender registry check) for on-site volunteers and members of the board of directors. Upon placement, volunteers receive training and supervision relevant to their roles. CSH volunteers must be 18 years of age, or older, and may assist in day-to-day operational tasks; however, they cannot provide direct services.

The Volunteer Program at CSH is designed to offer volunteers a variety of positive opportunities to advocate for children who are victims of sexual assault and other violent crimes. Volunteers are offered ongoing professional development opportunities, education and training and an increased awareness of the multidisciplinary team approach to child abuse. Our program also provides many opportunities for our volunteers to participate in research endeavors, internships, group projects and special events.

Our Volunteer Program is designed to provide local citizens with unique opportunities to make a difference in the life of a child victim. As direct service volunteers, our local community gains a deeply rewarding personal experience from helping a child in need.

Benefits

For Volunteering

Individuals who serve as volunteers for Children’s Safe Harbor receive many benefits for their time. Along with recommendation and/or reference letters from the Volunteer Coordinator and other staff members, volunteers also gain valuable experience and employable skills, such as time management, guidelines for working with a variety of clients, maintaining boundaries in a professional setting, increased interpersonal communication skills and much more.

Additionally, volunteers have the chance to witness a unique working dynamic between diverse fields (including law enforcement, judiciary agencies, social work, and the mental health and medical professions). If you would like to become a volunteer, and fill out the application or call our office to arrange for an interview and schedule a tour of our facility.
