Children’s Safe Harbor
In 2021 Children’s Safe Harbor provided services to over 2,398 children ages 2-17, across Montgomery, Walker and San Jacinto counties. Additionally, in 2021, Children’s Safe Harbor reviewed 7,609 reports of child abuse across the three counties that we serve in order to streamline investigations, this is a 15% increase from 2020.
We are working to end child sexual abuse and trauma, and we need your help. Some believe an abused child is broken forever. We know otherwise. Why Choose Us?
A forensic interview is a developmentally-sensitive and legally sound method of gathering factual information. It is typically the first step in a child abuse investigation. We are the only nonprofit in our community to offer this specialized service to our children in need.
Family Advocates play a key role in helping to support non-offending family members. Family Advocates provide crisis intervention, community referrals, and case management services to help smooth the way for the family to move through systems of care.
Mental health services are critical to helping abused and traumatized children and their non-offending family members heal and resolve their victimization. Without these services children can experience increased risks for additional problems, such as substance abuse, juvenile delinquency, and chronic health issues.
A medical evaluation holds an important place in the multidisciplinary team assessment of child abuse. Children’s Safe Harbor’s medical program provides certified forensic nurse examinations and follow up care for children who need this distinct service through a formal contract with Texas Forensic Nurse Examiners.

Why is the Children’s Advocacy Center model so important? How does it make a difference for child victims of abuse? At its core, the model is about teamwork – bringing the agency professionals involved in a case together on the front end – and about putting the needs of the child victim first. So rather than having a child taken from agency to agency throughout the law enforcement and child protection systems, and having to endure multiple, sequential interviews, the CAC model brings the system to the child, and brings the agency professionals together to work in a collaborative approach that results in effective, efficient and child-centered casework.
